Work samples

What we have built, and what it took to build it. Each entry gives the brief we were set, the thing that shipped, and the hardest problem solved on the way. Where a system is still in design we say so plainly.

Part One

Systems and platforms

Two systems in live production, and two client systems on the drawing board. Client names are withheld where the work is not yet commissioned.

Live in production The Intern Task Manager sign-in screen, showing the placement programme and the access rules enforced for interns, mentors and administrators

Intern Task Manager

interns.ialeinstitute.co.za · MICT SETA TVET placement cohort
The brief

Give a work-placement cohort spread across host employers one system of record for daily tasks, so that workplace-learning hours are evidenced on the day rather than reconstructed at audit.

The output

A three-role web application — intern, mentor, administrator — carrying task assignment, daily logging, mentor sign-off and the reporting a placement file has to produce. It runs on its own subdomain and is in live use by the current cohort.

The highlight

The rules of the placement agreement are enforced by the software rather than by reminders. Interns can only log work inside the Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 17:00 window the agreement defines, while mentors and administrators are unrestricted — so the hours on the record are the hours the programme actually permits. Compliance stops being a monthly chase and becomes a property of the system.

Live in production The Foundations of AI course landing page, showing the ten-module structure and QCTO accreditation

Foundations of AI — the AI Toolkit web app

iale-ai-toolkit.netlify.app
The brief

Turn a ten-module accredited course into a self-serve product a working adult can start in under a minute and finish at thirty minutes a day.

The output

A registration-to-certificate web application: ten modules released over ten days, progress carried between sessions, and an IALE Certificate of Practice with a formal Statement of Results issued on completion.

The highlight

Two problems solved at once. Commercially, the paywall was moved to sit after the value rather than in front of it — Modules 1 and 2 open free on registration, so the learner judges the product before paying. Technically, the course was lifted off a bare-IP host served over plain HTTP onto a hardened HTTPS deployment, closing a real POPIA exposure on a form that collects personal information.

In design Design stage Process map, architecture and consent model — no deployment yet

Employee Screening System

Pre-employment vetting and screening web system for a national government department · build and commissioning planned
The brief

Replace a paper-and-email pre-employment vetting process with one web system that carries a candidate from application to a defensible screening decision, with the audit trail a public-sector appointment has to withstand.

The output

At design stage: the process map, the system architecture and the screening workflow — intake, consent capture, verification checks, adjudication, and the record each step leaves behind. The build is planned rather than complete, and we say so instead of showing a system that does not yet exist.

The highlight

Screening is a POPIA problem wearing an HR hat. The design treats consent as a gate rather than a checkbox: no verification check can run before the lawful basis for it has been captured and timestamped, and every record carries the purpose it was collected for. Settling that at architecture stage is the difference between a system that survives an audit and one that quietly becomes a liability.

Concept Brochure & master prompt The full build specification, written before any code

Intelligent Operations Platform

Operations platform for a science and innovation park · at brochure and master-prompt stage
The brief

Give a science and innovation park one operating picture — tenants, facilities, utilities, compliance and performance — in place of the separate spreadsheets and systems that each tell a part of the story.

The output

At concept stage: the platform brochure that sets out the operating model, and the master prompt — the full specification from which the system is generated and built. No code has been cut, and none is shown here.

The highlight

The master prompt is the method, not a shortcut. Writing the whole platform down as one rigorous specification forces the hard decisions — what the park actually measures, who owns which record, what the system must refuse to do — to be settled on paper, where changing your mind is free, rather than inside a half-built system where it is not.

Part Two

Interactives you can use right now

Not screenshots — working software. Open any one, put your own numbers in, and see what it does.

Diagnostic · scoring model

Technology Adoption at Work

Why staff embrace some workplace technology and quietly ignore the rest. Watch the acceptance model assemble itself, then score a rollout on four drivers and see how many people will intend to use the system, how many actually will, and what the idle spend costs you each year.

The Publisher’s Decision

Seven seats each post one strategic move for a publisher facing digital disruption; the engine runs five years forward through a pandemic, a power crisis and a public tender, and tells you what the company became. Then you correct the board and replay it.

Competency Quiz & Live Marking Board

Five applied questions on one screen and a marking board on another. Answers sync between devices in about a second, the board reads concept coverage and whether people are showing their arithmetic, and a rubric panel turns bands into marks.

Disruption Radar

Test how well you read disruption in your own sector. Six judgement statements, five concept questions and two written answers produce a posture — from Comfortable Incumbent to Prepared Strategist — with a radar chart, a knowledge score and a sentiment reading taken from your own language.

Systemic Flow Diagrams

Six systems drawn one step at a time: the organisation as an open system, how technology reshapes strategy, the innovation process, business change, innovation and people, and the disruption dynamic. Every block explains its own role on hover.

A note on names. Client and institution names are withheld throughout this page where an engagement is not yet commissioned, and the interactives have been white-labelled for public use — the company in the boardroom simulation is fictional. The competency quiz runs on a shared public demonstration board, so please do not type real personal information into it.
